When you think about weight loss, chances are yoga
isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. In fact, when people think of yoga, they often only have one body type in mind as a picture of someone who does yoga.
The truth is, people of all shapes and sizes do yoga and enjoy it. Size is not an indicator of who can effectively do yoga. Movement produces the same result no matter who is doing the moving!
After all, it certainly doesn’t feel like you’re
doing the same high-intensity training as you would
with a cardio or weight-lifting workout, right?
But the truth is, yoga can play an integral part in
your ability to shed fat in a number of different ways,
including:
Boosting Metabolism
As stated above, never underestimate the power of burning calories. Movement is movement, no matter what type of movement you are engaging in, especially when movement is a habit that you practice daily.
Strengthen Your Core
Yoga will not only help you to strengthen your core
but will help improve your posture. Both of these
things will help you complete workout routines properly. Ask a personal trainer how many people they see each day on the workout floor who are doing exercises incorrectly due to a weak core. Being able to work the correct muscle group the exercise you are doing is intended for is major!
Helps You Maintain a Healthy Diet
Since yoga is effective at helping you manage stress-eating,
you’ll be able to stay on track with your diet. Stress eating is one of the most underestimated habits because it often happens in binging fashion. Which is more harmful, eating two boxes of donuts by eating one at a time each day, or eating two boxes of donuts in two days each month?
Here’s a powerful pose to help you get started:
Upward Plank Pose
Step 1: Begin by sitting with your hands placed a few
inches behind your hips with your fingers pointing forward.
Step 2: Bend your knees and place your feet flat on the
floor, big toes turned inward and heels placed at least
a foot away from your buttocks.
Step 3: Begin with a deep exhale, then press your inner
feet and hands down against the floor.
Step 4: Lift your hips until you come into a reverse
tabletop position, with your thighs and torso parallel
to the floor.
